#Fliphunt with #Flipgrid

Want to review a topic? Introduce a new unit? Need a formative assessment? Want to do any of these in an engaging, motivating way? Look no further than #Fliphunt! A #Fliphunt is a digital scavenger hunt incoprorating videos all taken and housed within Flipgrid. This moves beyond a typical scavenger hunt of collecting pictures into a where the activities should involve movement, be a little silly, have ACTION verbs, and be video-worthy (See the post by the original creator of #Fliphunt, Kathi Kersznowski, here).

To create a fliphunt, you start by creating a Microsoft Word document or Google Doc to attach to your Flipgrid topic. Identify the concepts you want to review and fun ways students can demonstrate that concept. Give the tasks a title and create a description for each task. Students can earn points for every task they complete. Once you have typed up your list of activities, you will need to create a Group within Flipgrid and name it based on your Fliphunt (example- Geometry #Fliphunt). In your group, you will create different topics for each task. Students will post the videos for each task to the topic. For easy organization, I would suggest having your students put their name and the title of the task for the video title. If you need more assistance getting started in Flipgrid, watch this video (click here).

A few tips for your #Fliphunt (tips from the creator of #Fliphunt)

  • Watch the timing for each video: Kathi Kersznowski suggest a maximum of 30 seconds for each video

  • Even with your digital document, give students a hard copy so they can carry it with them

  • Flipgrid has an iOS and Android app. If your students have a phone or tablet, I recommend having them download the app to conduct their #Fliphunt.

  • Make it fun! Don't have students just answer questions on videos. Bring in movement and make the tasks a little silly.

Some different examples of Fliphunt documents are linked below (Found at https://blog.tcea.org/fliphunt/).

I've also linked already created Fliphunts within Flipgrid, linked by Kathi Kersnowski. To use these, you will need to add the topic to your own Flipgrid. Click here to view these examples.

If you want to try a #Fliphunt with your students, but have no idea where to start, just let me know! I'll be more than happy to brainstorm ideas with you to put one together.
