šŸPeardeck Flashcard Factory: Engaging Vocabulary Practice

Flashcard Factory is an offshoot of Pear Deck and is a different way of engaging with vocabulary words. Rather than making paper flashcards and focusing on memorization, Flashcard Factory allows students to collaborate with each other to define terms and create illustrations of their vocabulary terms. While Pear Deck has some paid features, Flashcard Factory is completely free to use! Flashcard Factory is great for ALL grades and subjects. I've used it for math, and it is easy to implement for ELA, history, science, Spanish, and more! Keep reading to find out how it works!

1ļøāƒ£Step 1: Create your vocabulary list

Create and name your vocabulary list. Input the words and definitions, or choose from suggested Merriam-Webster definitions. You can also copy & paste terms/definitions from a list, or even search for pre-made lists.

2ļøāƒ£Step 2: Play Flashcard Factory

When you're ready to play, go to Peardeck.com and find your list. Choose Start Flashcard Factory and have students join on their own devices.

šŸ‘·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļøProduction Phase:

The first phase of the game is the production phase. In this phase, students will be divided into two teams: day shift and night shift. One person will be assigned to create an illustration for their term and the other person will write an example or sentence using the word.

For more collaboration, have students should sit with their partners. Each pair will work through all the terms in your list, submitting them once they have both agreed on the illustration and sentences.

šŸš§Quality Control:

Once students submit their cards from the production phase, they go to the Quality Control phase, where you and/or the class agree if they match the definition of the term. Display the cards on the board and have the class vote yes or no on the card. Hold a discussion determining which examples are the best and why they are the best.

Use Flashcard Factory when introducing new vocabulary words to get your students to think about what the definition of the word may be, recall prior knowledge, or use to review after vocabulary has been taught.

3ļøāƒ£Step 3: Ship & Study the Cards

"Ship" the cards the class agrees on and the cards can be printed for review or exported to Gimkit to play as a class set. It's as easy as 1, 2, 3!

You can view which students created the specific card in the Quality Control phase. Simply hover over the card as it moves along the production line and the student's name will appear.
