Google Chrome has many hidden features that can help you save time and be more productive if you only know about them. Here are 5 tips (plus one quick bonus)... keep reading to discover these hidden gems and how to use them!

1️⃣Create a QR Code

Creating a QR code for any webpage is very easy and requires just a few clicks. This is a great way to share links to people using mobile devices.

  • In the chrome search bar, click the right arrow.

  • Under the dropdown menu, choose Create QR Code

  • Download the QR code & add it into your presentation, email, doc, etc.

2️⃣Create a Link to Highlighted Text on a Webpage

This is a great feature that allows you to send a section of a webpage! Instead of sending your students to a website or article and having them search for the portion you wanted to read, share a link with them that will highlight just that section when they click the link.

  • Highlight the text you want your readers to see.

  • Right-click on the text

  • Choose Copy Link to Highlight

  • Paste your link for the reader to click on

3️⃣Create Bookmark Folders

Every morning I turn my computer on and I open the same 4 tabs. Instead of typing in each web address, I have these bookmarked into a folder and click Open All. They all open at one time and it is a huge time saver for me.

To create the bookmarked folder, click on the Google Chrome dropdown menu on the right side of the address bar

  • Scroll down to bookmarks

  • Click bookmark manager

  • In the top right corner, click on the 3 dot dropdown menu on the webpage

  • Click Add Folder and type the name of your folder

  • Save the folder

  • Once you open the tabs that you want to put in the folder & bookmark them by pressing the star in the address bar

  • Choose the bookmark folder to add it to OR

  • Highlight the link & drag the link into the folder

Watch the video below to see how it's done!

4️⃣Search Open Tabs

I can get in a bad habit of having a bunch of tabs open and not remembering which tab held the information I need. Use the searching open tabs feature to use keywords & find that information quickly!

  • Click on the arrow in the top right corner of your Chrome Browser (next to the tabs)

  • Type your keyword(s) in the search bar

  • Click the tab you want to navigate to & it will automatically take you there.

It's as easy as that!

5️⃣Google Search Hidden Tools

The Google Search bar has some hidden tools (& a few games)... just type any of the following in the search bar & use the dropdown to pick one of the tools Google offers

  • Roll dice

  • Spinner

  • Flip a coin

  • Google tuner

  • Calculator

  • Google Metronome

🌟Bonus Tip!

Have you ever accidentally closed a tab that you needed (🙋🏻‍♀️all the time)? Here's a quick short cut to help you out!

ctrl + shift + t

Yep... that's it. Hold down those 3 keys at once and your closed tab will magically reopen!

Stay tuned for more hidden features in Google Chrome in the coming weeks!
